Hello and welcome! We have moved to a bigger classroom this year with access to a kitchen and laundry room. We will utilize these rooms and practice independently living skills. This year 09-10 we have 7 students and 3 staff. 3 of these young men will be graduating this year. How exciting!
Over the summer I participated in a week long Reading Academy and learned new techniques for teaching and assessing the reading process. I am excited to implement these new processes. I also participated in a professional development in the park. With my new knowledge I am excited to take my students out to a park and investigate what nature is all about.
We will focus on independent living skills in the classroom and practice them in the community through Community Based Instruction (CBI). I have several sites for the students to try out. Our class will also go on exploratory CBI trips to expose the students to new experiences. We will also take many fun field trips to explore recreational and leisure activities. We will work hard but have fun doing it.
If we all work together and support one another we will have an excellent year and learn useful skills. The expectations are high to allow each student to achieve their personal best.
